East Caicos - in the top 10 of this year
East Caicos is an uninhabited island in the Caribbean located in the Turks and Caicos Islands. East Caicos vacations are probably best known for the ruins and caves that are scattered throughout the island for visitors to find and enjoy. Getting here isn't hard, but it is recommended that you have a guide or knowledgeable pilot take you onto the island, as there are many reefs and other ocean problems that can cause the unwary traveler some major problems. Since there are no resorts or hotels in East Caicos, there are not many water sports to practice on your East Caicos vacations. Swimming is one of the few water sports that you can enjoy on East Caicos vacations, but be sure that you are aware of which side of the island you are on, as there are many strong currents and reefs that can cause problems and injuries.

East Caicos vacations are great
East Caicos was once a thriving plantation and ranch, providing all of the meat for Grand Turk. Until World War II, many local hunters came to the island to hunt some of the wild cattle that were remnants of the herds that used to be one of the main sources of meat. East Caicos vacations are an opportunity to discover the long history of the island. On your East Caicos vacations, you should visit the local caves that are rich with petro glyphs and cave drawings. It is clear that one of the larger caves was used as a religious or tribal meeting place, and there are many carvings in the walls, such as a large head that resembles a gargoyle. |

And more ...
East Caicos vacations benefit from the varied landscapes. The island has extensive savannas on the north side, which are ideal for ranching, while near Lorimers Point is an area with flamingos, wild ducks and pigeons. There are many ponds and lakes to visit on your East Caicos vacations and at White Top Pond grow the Palmetto thatch palms, which are still in great demand for making hats. Access to one of most beautiful bays is made very dangerous by the reef of Jacksonville Cut, where only the most experienced local seadogs dare to venture. |

Other about East Caicos |
|
East Caicos is an uninhabited island but is large in size being 18 square miles. A majority of the island is inundated by swamps and mangroves; you can find the highest point of the islands here. There is a splendid 17 mile beach on the north coast of the island you should see on your East Caicos vacations; this is usually only used by sea turtles to lay their eggs because of the large mosquito population. Near Jacksonville in the north west of the island there are a series of caves that used to be used for mining bat guano. |
